A Direct Cremation is a Cremation with no Funeral Service or ceremony beforehand. After death, the person who has passed away is brought into the care of the Funeral Directors. Once the statutory paperwork and registration of the death is completed the person who has passed away is then transported to a Crematorium to be cremated, usually in a very simple, plain coffin. After the Cremation, the ashes are returned to the family or close friend to be kept, scattered or buried according to the wishes of the person who has passed away.
This is not a new service, I have worked in the Funeral profession for just over 27 years now and this service has always been available.
What is new, is the way this service is being advertised on television and social media by companies who are not Funeral Directors.
If you or someone you love is thinking about a Direct Cremation, please consider the following:
1 - Is your Next of Kin and family/friends comfortable with not attending a Funeral?
2 - Carefully research which company you instruct to carry out a Direct Cremation.
3 - Ask the company you choose which Crematorium they will use and where the person who has passed away will be kept in the days leading up to the Cremation.
4 - Ask the company you choose how long it will take to receive the ashes back.
Many of the Direct Cremation companies people see advertising on the television and social media do not have any local infrastructure and transport peoples loved one's to other parts of the country to be kept and then cremated.
Local Funeral Directors can carry out exactly the same service you see advertised on the television and social media for exactly the same cost but with the extra comfort of knowing that your loved one will be cared for locally and will remain in the area they lived throughout the entire process and always ensuring a local Crematorium is used and the persons ashes are returned to the family or close friend the day after the Cremation.
It's worth educating yourself on this topic and investing the time to fully understand what a Direct Cremation is and exactly what will happen to your loved one should you choose a Direct Cremation.
We appreciate that some people prefer a Direct Cremation.
We will personally care for your loved one from the moment you contact us to the day of the Cremation. We will not transfer your loved one to a Funeral Hub and Crematoria across the country, we will use Crematoria local to you, your loved one will rest locally in our Funeral Home and I would be your point of contact throughout proceedings, I will not instruct a third-party as many of the national Direct Cremation companies do.
Our Simple, low cost, direct cremation service includes:
Collection of your loved one within 30 miles.
Suitable Coffin.
Transportation to Crematorium in a specialist vehicle.
Personal delivery of your loved one's ashes within 30 miles and within 24 hours of the Cremation.
